PS5’s stock resurgence continues unabated, as Sony dominated the USA hardware sales charts for the fourth successive month – this time in the crucial November shopping period. PlayStation’s new-gen system outsold its competition in both units and dollars, making it a comfortable frontrunner overall. This success contributed to a 43 per cent increase in hardware sales year-over-year, which helped drive the industry to $6.3 billion in revenue for the period spanning 30th October through 26th November.
Unsurprisingly, the unstoppable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 completely dominated the field, becoming the best-selling game of 2022 overall. It was followed by God of War Ragnarok, a record-breaker for PS Studios, with Sonic Frontiers finishing in a very respectable fourth position – behind the latest Pokémon, of course, which is ranked without its digital sales here. One other thing of note on the software sales front is that Tactics Ogre: Reborn sneaked inside the Top 20 – an impressive achievement for the legendary Square Enix strategy game.

I’m glad Sony starting to dominate again.
and thats even with the other 2 having Black Friday discount.
so credit where its due
And people thought God of War would bury Sonic. Never doubt the Sonic fanbase. It also helps that its a great game!
@Korgon more likely the fact it was reduced to half price of gow
Zelda is still top 20??? BOTW2 might be an ever bigger deal than we could have imagined.
Minecraft 2 would become the most successful game ever day 1.
@stvevan
I'm sure that helped but they've been making Sonic games for over 30 years now. I'm pretty sure there's a consistent audience there.😄
Looks like they really did fix there supply issues
Think it's just the start of a nice extended run for PS5. Switch has some games left but the console is really shows its age and most who want it own it already. As for Xbox... Series X is a great console, in the year I've owned one I've used it more than I did my X1 from 2017 until I traded it in, in late 2021. I've bought several third party multiplats for it. Unlike X1, which felt like a chore to use, Series X is a nice console to play games on. But it has zero exclusives and after saying 'wait for E3,' for the 10 billionth year in a row, it's going to be start becoming an issue. It might get an NPD win or 2 if Sony has stock issues again, if not, I expect PS5 to start pulling away from the pack, and depending on what kind of decisions Nintendo makes for its next-gen machine, it might be domination like we saw from Nov. 2013-March 2017.
Nice to see the components are finally being assembled at an acceptable rate. Still feel somewhat irked at Sony's £30 increase for the Chinese assembled console to get to the UK...
Now, Sony, about that redesigned box....
@4kgk2 2 exclusives in the top 10 (the rest being multi-platform) and potentially only because Nintendo don’t report regional digital sales doesn’t scream “domination”.
@RogerRoger Sonic is a newer game, the majority of sports title sales happen within the first few weeks (declines are expected around November) and Sonic had a significant BF discounts. Not that surprising in context.
Didn't someone post a link here from vgchartz stating that Sony was dead last in November? Goes to show how reliable source of information that site is.
@naruball Was just wondering the same thing.
Makes me wonder why I've not deleted my bookmark for that site.
To be fair, I remember Sammy warning me that site was unreliable about 4 years ago.
Imagine if Nintendo put Zelda on PS5 so it could actually run appropriately…
@RogerRoger I caved and bought it yesterday, having an absolute blast playing it!
@Shepherd_Tallon @naruball i believe that just covered Black Friday period?
Sonic Frontier was half off on all platforms during black friday and still could get 1st it's debut month. 😂
I'm actually curious on how much it sold. There is probably a huge sales gap between Sonic (#4) and Pokémon(#3) in the same period.
@stvevan it was selling well from the start
@uptownsoul i mean they were 3rd by only a little bit, XBox did 1.2 million and PS5 did 1 million that is basically neck and neck. The whole who’s in first, second or third is silly, someone has to be 3rd, but how are they 3rd is what matters, are they in 3rd like Xbox one where they are getting doubled up by PS, or is it 3rd in a respectful number, that shows all 3 are contributing to a healthy industry. I thought all 3 consoles did amazing Black Friday sales and as an owner of all 3 i was happy to see them all do great. 2023 is shaping up to have some awesome games, so they should all 3 be selling well for time to come.
@uptownsoul no i don’t say what’s wrong with Sony when they are in 3rd place in sales, cause the truth of the mater is they are still the more popular console, if they had more consoles to sell they would be sold. I will say it’s nice to see Nintendo and Xbox selling good numbers tho, it’s good for the industry to not have the Wii U and Xbox One numbers. Again i own all 3 consoles so i want to see them all gaining a larger player base. Another point just so you can gauge my stance on sony is, largely there isn’t much to complain about with PS5, the only thing you will find me saying is i hate the design, i think it’s to big and way over engineered to need a stand for it to lay down and since the PS1 day’s i just don’t like the stick placement on Sony Controllers. I like offset sticks. I was super hopeful their Dual Sense Edge was going to allow customization that you could place them offset, but i knew that was a long shot but was prepared to pay the money if it did happen. Other than that PS5 is super solid and of course going to sell loads of units and have some killer games. Not sure why people get so wrapped up in sales. It doesn’t make the console run faster or games any better or worse. I don’t get into my truck and start it and say gee i wish this truck was 1st in sales so it would tow my boat better. I don’t go to use my microwave and say i sure hope this heats my food right cause the brand isn’t number 1 in sales. But some reason gamers find bragging rights about certain console sales numbers. I don’t get it, all it does is make people argue and spilt the industry apart.
@uptownsoul i am not to concerned what Sony’s sales numbers are cause i love my PS5 and just happy i was able to find one. For those that take shots at Sony, i find it childish and a waste of time, there are far more better topics to talk about. Like how awesome GOWR is. Sony has sold a ton of consoles this year and i am happy that the shortages are getting better so more gamers that want to buy a PS5 and enjoy it can. Don’t let others take away from your fun is all i really mean. There will always be someone talking dumb stuff online, unfortunately for us gamers we are some of the worse offenders of it.
@uptownsoul Yeah buddy i am just here for the good games and to have fun and share stories and conversations with gamers. Not to worried about sales, consoles wars and all that stuff. But i enjoyed talking with you and i know what you meant by what you said 😊
@uptownsoul and here’s some advice take a clue that talking about sales and what number the console of your choice was in so seriously. It’s like milk it does the body good.
@uptownsoul I mean i care enough that they are all selling well enough to each meet their goals, i care enough to see the industry doing well in a bad economy, i care enough to see if xbox can sell without releasing any big first party holiday title. But i don’t care enough for the silly fanboy wars or care enough that Sony didn’t sell the most.
@uptownsoul i always have fun, i commented cause you asked where everyone was that was talking trash about PS5 being outsold for black friday and said you would need to look up and see what i said. So i gave you all the info you needed without a lookup 😊
@uptownsoul Thanks sir 😊
Congrats to Sony on an excellent month!
I fully expect them to win every NPD Vs both Xbox consoles combined going forward until the PS6, bar an anomaly here or there. The line-up of exclusives has reached that critical mass now. Even with a price increase, they still can't sate worldwide demand. Could have been on 35-40m sales already.
